When downtown in Grand Rapids, you are 30 minutes from Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes – the fresh water inland seas that sandy beaches and fishing for trout, salmon and other sport fish. You can tour the Grand River itself. The Grand Lady Riverboat has regular cruises of around two hours on the Grand River.
Music clubs and theater options abound, as do Gardens and Museums. Meijer Gardens have a new Japanese Garden opening in June. In conjunction with this, there is an exhibition at Meijer Gardens of art from Japan, named Splendors of Shiga, displayed at the Gardens, some of which has never left Japan.
There are open concerts and dances within walking distance of the host hotel.
Boutiques, shops, restaurants, brew pubs and breweries abound around the host hotel.
